BUZUD Leads Singapore's Fight Against Undiagnosed Diabetes
In Singapore, nearly 40% of diabetes cases remain undiagnosed, posing an increasingly severe challenge to the nation's healthcare system. Often referred to as the 'silent epidemic,' diabetes can lead to serious complications such as heart disease, kidney failure, and nerve damage if not treated promptly. Recognizing the urgency of the issue, BUZUD, a leader in medical innovation, is taking proactive steps to make a substantial difference. BUZUD has partnered with Diabetes Singapore to actively participate in this year's World Diabetes Day (WDD) activities, providing free health screenings and diabetes education to thousands of Singaporeans, standing at the forefront of the fight against diabetes. The Growing Burden of Diabetes in Singapore Diabetes is a major public health issue in Singapore. If current trends continue, the government expects annual spending on diabetes treatment to exceed 1 billion SGD by 2050. This burden largely stems from late diagnosis, often only discovered after complications arise. Studies show that undiagnosed or late-diagnosed diabetes patients are more likely to face severe health issues, requiring costly and long-term intensive care. Early detection and preventive measures are crucial to reducing these risks and improving health outcomes. BUZUD's Comprehensive Health Screening Services As part of efforts to combat undiagnosed diabetes, BUZUD has partnered with Diabetes Singapore to conduct health screenings at various events across the island. Over a month, these activities reached about 20,000 people, with 2,500 receiving free health screenings. The screenings included not only the standard HbA1c test but also measurements of Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure, lipid levels, and uric acid levels. This comprehensive approach highlights the interrelation of health indicators such as hypertension, high cholesterol, and elevated uric acid, which are often closely linked to diabetes and overall metabolic health. By offering a more holistic screening experience, BUZUD and Diabetes Singapore emphasize the importance of early detection and timely management to prevent complications and enhance quality of life. Guest of Honor and Event Highlights The 2024 World Diabetes Day event featured Mdm Rahayu Mahzam, Minister of State for the Ministry of Social and Family Development and Ministry of Health, as the guest of honor, adding prestige to the occasion. She noted that diabetes affects approximately one in every 12 Singapore residents, underscoring the importance of early detection, regular screenings, and proactive management to prevent complications and improve quality of life. Mdm Rahayu also praised Diabetes Singapore and its partners, including BUZUD, for their efforts in raising public awareness and providing accessible health screenings. She emphasized the role of community support and partnerships in creating an ecosystem that supports diabetes patients in actively managing their health. Her speech also touched on broader initiatives by the Ministry of Health, such as the 'Healthier SG' plan, which encourages regular screenings and personalized health plans through family doctors. Dr. Bee Yong Mong, Chairman of Diabetes Singapore, also attended the event, playing a key role in supporting the organization's mission to combat diabetes. His presence highlighted the importance of collaboration between healthcare institutions and technology providers in addressing the diabetes epidemic. Innovating Diabetes Management with Technology...
