SINGAPORE, 29 October 2026 – BUZUD has reached two milestones in its work on connected nutrition. A study evaluating NutriDish, BUZUD's AI-enabled meal analysis tool, was published in the peer-reviewed journal Frontiers in Nutrition on 29 September 2026. On 29 October, BUZUD and Japan's Morus Inc. announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Japan–Singapore Agri-Food Innovation MOU Announcement Ceremony, held at the Asia-Pacific Agri-Food Innovation Summit 2026. The ceremony marked 60 years of diplomatic relations between Japan and Singapore.

Together, these milestones reflect a shared belief: prevention begins with the choices we make at every meal.

Prevention Starts at the Dining Table

Diet plays a central role in metabolic health, yet understanding what we eat remains a challenge for many people. Carbohydrate counting is especially demanding in Singapore, where meals are diverse, multi-ethnic and often made up of several components.

BUZUD believes technology can help close this gap. By turning everyday meals into clear, personal insights, connected nutrition tools can help people better understand their own habits. They can also support healthcare professionals with meaningful real-world information.

Evidence First: NutriDish in Frontiers in Nutrition

NutriDish was co-designed through a technical partnership between BUZUD and Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), whose researchers led the published study.

The study compared NutriDish's carbohydrate estimates with dietitian-derived reference values for 150 foods commonly eaten in Singapore, collected from hawker centres, restaurants, homes and retail stores. NutriDish was also compared with a general-purpose AI model, ChatGPT-5.

Key findings include:

  • On average, NutriDish's estimates were within 5.9 g of dietitian reference values, compared with 8.7 g for ChatGPT-5
  • 80.7% of NutriDish estimates were within ±10 g of the reference, compared with 69.3% for ChatGPT-5
  • NutriDish performed most accurately on simple foods, while composite meals remained more challenging

NutriDish combines food-image analysis with the BUZUD Nutrition Database, which includes local Singapore food data. It can also link meal records with continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data, helping users connect what they eat with their glucose patterns.

This was an estimation study, not a patient-outcomes trial. NutriDish is intended as a decision-support tool, and professional guidance remains essential.

"The future of healthcare begins not in hospitals, but with the choices we make at every meal. At BUZUD, we believe prevention must be proactive, personalised, accessible and driven by scientific evidence. By understanding how our diverse, multi-ethnic Asian diets influence glucose responses, we aim to empower individuals to take greater ownership of their health, support healthcare professionals with meaningful real-world evidence, and advance the prevention and management of chronic diseases."
